Pot Smoking, Fake Degree Holding Canukistanis
Where's the documentary on pimping out your friends to live a lavish lifestyle and then making them eat cat poo?
I've given up caring. Like my co-worker Andy said. It'll blow over. Next week it'll be dodgy Chinese fucking up the banking system for the rest of us. After that? Who knows. Then when there is no other "News" to report the focus will once again switch to dodgy English teachers. Without any consideration for those of us who are here legally earning an honest wage and paying Tax.
However apparently The Managing Director has been following events and so this memo was waiting for me when I got to work this afternoon. (Names changed because the real names don't sound cool enough. And my smart comments in brackets)
I love my job.
Dear Augustus and all teachers,
As you may know a major Korean TV network did a comprehensive story (Comprehensive!? hahahahahaha!) on the criminal behavior of English teachers in Korea. In the story one Canadian Teacher contended that two out of every 10 English teachers use drugs (surely this doesn't include the handful of Xanax I sprinkle over my cornflakes in the morning) and many teachers use fake diplomas.
They interviewed one English teacher who is living with Korean girl friend (Shock! Horror!)and smokes marihuana(Oh the spelling) in his Itaewon house. He said, he often teaches his class in freak -- out condition. Some of them were arrested in the guilty using of illegal drugs and fake diplomas.
Yesterday we received many calls from parents who concern about these issues. Your students or people may ask those related questions during the class or elsewhere.
Today morning, another major TV network dealt with this issue briefly. In this program one New Zealand teacher interviewed and he came here only because of the better payment condition than New Zealand (No! Really!? Do you think!? Earning money is a crime too now!?) In his interview we cannot see that he has any passion or responsibility in teaching English. (Dude sounds like a moron too. Who let's themselves be interviewed on Korean Telly?!.) He is the only one who was on the TV program. He may be an idiot :) but this may affects NZC and New Zealand Image. (If I ever see the dude...!). Imelda is very concern about this issue.
We know these issues are hyped up but still hot. So I would like to ask you to notify these issues to all teachers and ask them pay extra attention on their behavior --if this is a suitable word-- in the class and on the street. (Yes my employer has that much control over me)
Best Regards
Horatio Park
PS If you want you can watch the program (We taped the first program they interview in English.)
